Noref’s Expedition is a tale told from the perspective of a teacher to his students about a scholar that embarks on a journey into the Maw desert. During his expedition his beloved wife is abducted. Left behind are disturbing images of men who came in the most unusual masks and weapons. The illustrations were brilliant and made the story come alive. The premise was really thought provoking but there was not a lot of substance. It needed more character development and the ending was less than inspirIng.
Well written. Easy and quick read. Looking forward to more from Daniel T. Ritter
Nothing in either the GoodReads or description indicate that this is not a stand alone short story; fact of the matter is, Wulfheart - Noref's Expedition is an introductory short. The story is interesting, told in an interesting format medieval feel to the setting with a post apocalyptic reality, the story is told through the voice of a teacher, leading his class of children as they learn their own ancient history.
The story, on its own, is only okay. It has potential and the series could very well be worth reading. But on its own merits, for that's what led me to read the story - not as an introduction - I have to give this a solid three stars.
Note this is an English translation from the original German text....text is a bit simplistic at times.
I wish I knew how to speak German. Now I have to wait till he translates the next chapter. This book is folklore/fiction at its best.
